NASCAR has fined Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 51 car in the Sprint Cup Series, $50,000 and placed him on NASCAR probation until July 25 for his actions during the May 12 race at Darlington Raceway.

Admittedly, Sprint Cup drivers haven’t raced in heavy traffic since NASCAR mandated shorter side skirts for the cars, but in the All-Star Race practice and qualifying Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, most drivers felt little or no difference in the way their cars performed.

Denny Hamlin didn’t win this weekend at Darlington Raceway. But a pair of second-place finishes left him content leaving NASCAR’s oldest, and arguably most difficult, major speedway.

Admittedly, Sprint Cup drivers haven’t raced in heavy traffic since NASCAR mandated shorter side skirts for the cars, but in the All-Star Race practice and qualifying Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, most drivers felt little or no difference in the way their cars performed.

Brian France, chairman and CEO of NASCAR, said Saturday that he is pleased with the direction the 2012 season has taken.

Like so many other aspects of his early racing career, Dale Earnhardt Jr. made winning NASCAR’s All-Star Race look all too easy during his first attempt at it in 2000.
