‘I believe he’s the greatest player to touch a basketball,’ Wayne says of the basketball great.
Lil Wayne is a known sports nut, and with this year’s NBA playoffs in full swing, the Cash Money Billionaire is in all his glory.
Weezy’s favorite team are the L.A. Lakers and his favorite player is, of course, the great Kobe Bryant. When Tunechi attended the Lakers’ home game against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night, he told the L.A. Times that he draws a great deal of inspiration from #24.
“He’s inspired not only songs, but he’s inspired me in life in general, just the way he attacks things, the way he never backs down, the way he fights through injury,” said Tha Carter IV MC. “Not only [does] he fight through injury, and not only do he play through injury, he excel through injury. I take those type of things and I just apply them to my everyday life.”
This season alone the basketball megastar has excelled on the court despite suffering with a broken nose and a torn ligament in his right wrist. On Thursday morning (May 10), Bryant missed practice because of gastroenteritis, but Laker coach Mike Brown believes the star will fight through his stomach pains and still play in tonight’s playoff game.
Though Michael Jordan is widely recognized as the best to ever play the game, Wayne’s vote goes to Bryant. “I believe he’s the greatest player to touch a basketball,” he said.
And just as the NBA is looking to crown a 2012 championship team, MTV’s RapFix blog has been looking to crown the top rap crew in the 2012 Hip-Hop Playoffs. Will Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group be able to claim the #1 spot? Or will Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music win it all? Voting is open now, so head over to Rapfix to rep for your favorite crew!

Santana tells MTV News he plans to drop his next solo LP Born to Lose, Built to Win later this year.
Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne’s I Can’t Feel My Face LP has been six years in the making and a good number of the tracks have already been leaked onto the Internet, but when fans will get an official version is anyone’s guess.
“When Wayne reached out to me at the time I just wasn’t in the position to really do things the right way,” Santana told MTV News at Meek Mill’s 25th birthday bash in Philadelphia.
During an interview with MTV’s “Hip Hop POV” host Amanda Seales, Wayne revealed that when he was released from prison in 2010, he hoped he and his buddy Elz could begin new recording sessions for the storied album, but after a January 2011 raid on Santana’s New Jersey studio left him unable to work, Weezy repurposed the beats that intended for Face for his upcomingI Am Not a Human Being II. “At the time my studio had just got shut down, I lost a lot of music so I just had to recuperate,” Elz explained to MTV News. “But I reached out to Weezy, we in a good space.”
I Can’t Feel My Face isn’t the only Juelz project that fans have been clamoring for. It’s been seven years since his last solo album, What the Game’s Been Missing! and considering it earned him an RIAA-certified gold plaque, the wait for Juelz’s next LP Born to Lose, Built to Win is quite the head scratcher. But the rapper assured that he’ll have an album out by the end of the year.
“I’ll probably drop two mixtapes before the album and we gonna get everything right, we gonna get everything back in the proper perspective where it need to be,” he told MTV News. “When I put out my music it will be well worth the wait, that’s all I can say.”
And in case you were wondering about the status of Diplomatic Immunity 3, the long-awaited reunion album with Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz and Freekey Zekey, that idea is still on the table. “Hopefully we gonna get that Diplomat album poppin’,” Santana plugged. “We just want to do that the right way.”

‘YMCMB start and stop with Wayne; it ain’t no YMCMB without Wayne,’ Birdman tells MTV News.
When Lil Wayne first signed with Cash Money Records as a pre-teen, he wasn’t the label’s biggest star, but these days, it’s impossible to imagine the premier rap label without Tunechi. With his most-recent deal, fans won’t have to fathom that possibility.
A few weeks back, Weezy announced on MTV’s “Hip Hop POV” that he re-signed with Cash Money for a four-album deal, and since then, rumors have begun to surface that Birdman put up $150 million to retain Wayne’s recording rights.
“YMCMB start and stop with Wayne; it ain’t no YMCMB without Wayne,” Birdman told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway on Monday night while DJ Khaled was shooting his “Take It to the Head” video in L.A.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway
On “POV,” Wayne said, “Everybody knows I came into the game at 11 years old with Cash Money Records, before we even had a major deal. We signed a deal in I don’t remember when, and I been with Cash Money ever since. So, if you’re looking for integrity, I am the definition. If you’re looking for a person that’s gonna stay down, I am the definition. If you’re looking for loyalty, I am just that.”
Birdman wouldn’t confirm the exact figures in the deal, but he made it clear that when it comes to Wayne, who he considers a son, the sky is the limit. “The type of situation we did never been done in urban music; it’s probably the biggest deal ever in urban music,” he said. “I’m blessed to even do that — whatever my son want, he can get. It’s all his anyway, so it don’t really matter to me.”
With Weezy as the flagship, the #1 Stunna hopes to grow his Cash Money/Young Money company into a billion-dollar brand. “That’s one of our goals, and the move we just made was a big move to that, to make sure the pioneer of it, which is Wayne,” he said.
Tunechi’s next album will be I Am Not a Human Being II, and the new deal ensures that it won’t be his last. Baby is no doubt proud to continue doing business with Birdman Jr., but let him tell it, and it’s more than business: “This is for life,” he said.

‘I Can’t Feel My Face has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being,‘ Wayne confirms to ‘Hip Hop POV.’
It seems like we’ve been talking about a Lil Wayne/ Juelz Santana collabo album forever. But when the much-ballyhooed I Can’t Feel My Face will actually drop is anyone’s guess. While Weezy’s 2010 jail stint definitely postponed the project, now Tunechi says when he got home, he reached out to his Dipset buddy to finally put their plans in motion.
“I actually got at Elz when I got out and told him, ‘Man, I think it’s time we really capitalize on that,’ ” Wayne recalled to Amanda Seales of MTV’s “Hip Hop POV” in an outtake from last week’s episode.
By Rob Markman
It’s more than six years in the making, but for a time, I Can’t Feel My Face was one of rap’s most-anticipated projects. Now that Weezy has put his legal troubles behind him, it’s Santana who’s facing drama after his New Jersey recording studio was raided in January 2011.
“He can’t work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio,” Wayne explained. “I sent him some music and he didn’t send them back in the time-fashion that I work.”
Never one to remain idle, Tunechi took the songs that he had set aside for the joint album and repurposed them for his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II solo LP. “I started putting extra verses on those songs and I’ve moved on,” he confirmed. “Now what probably would’ve been I Can’t Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being.“
During a June 2011 interview on “RapFix Live,” Juelz gave his own reasoning for the delay. “It wasn’t no one reason it didn’t happen. Me and Wayne always was on the same page, musically, as far as friendship-wise,” he said. “I’m just happy we didn’t let that get in the way of us being cool, being able to do things in the future; we ain’t let it get to us.”

‘I came into the game with Cash Money, and I’m gonna ride it out with my team,’ Wayne says on ‘Hip Hop POV.’
Cash Money Records plans to drop approximately 16 albums this year, and at least one of them will come from Lil Wayne, who is currently working on two new LPs. But if there was any worry that Weezy would take his future projects elsewhere, the New Orleans rapper confirms that he recently signed another four-album deal with Cash Money.
During an interview on the debut episode of MTV’s “Hip Hop POV,” Lil Wayne confirmed that he’s sticking with his team.
By Nadeska Alexis
“Everybody knows I came into the game at 11 years old with Cash Money Records, before we even had a major deal,” Wayne said. “We signed a deal in I don’t remember when, and I been with Cash Money ever since. So if you’re looking for integrity, I am the definition. If you’re looking for a person that’s gonna stay down, I am the definition. If you’re looking for loyalty, I am just that.”
Despite a few tumultuous years, Wayne maintains that all is right in the world of YMCMB. “Trust me, there’s been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of downs — all the down way down if you wanna know,” he said. “But I rode it out with my team and I’m gonna ride it out with my team.”
I Am Not a Human Being 2, the sequel to Wayne’s 2010 release, is the next project on the horizon, and he’s also at work on an album called Devol, which he wrote during his time in prison.
According to Wayne, I Am Not a Human Being 2 will give him the most creative freedom. “Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs. Maybe on a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13,” he explained “But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I really don’t care. … You’re probably gonna get 16 on there.
“The I Am Not a Human Being 2 is more me just being creatively free,” he added.
Lil Wayne dropped his most recent album, Tha Carter IV, last summer. By February the album had sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide.Related Videos

‘It’s my version of love songs,’ Weezy explains in ‘Hip Hop POV’ interview, airing tonight at midnight ET on MTV.
Lil Wayne gets love all around the world, but on his next album, Weezy plans to flip the script. During an exclusive interview with Amanda Seales from MTV’s new weekly late-night talk show “Hip Hop POV,” Wayne revealed that he is working on a new LP called Devol (pronounced “devil”). “That’s ‘loved’ spelled backwards, and it’s my version of love songs,” Tunechi explained.

Seales went down to Miami, where she was treated to an intimate listening session by the Young Money boss himself. It’s no secret that Weezy F has a way with the ladies. With songs like “Lollipop” and “She Will,” Wayne has carved out a lane for himself as a hip-hop sex symbol — but he isn’t exactly going all loverboy on us. “What I mean by my version of love songs is meaning they’re not saying, ‘I love you,’ ” he explains in the clip. “It’s all material I did when I was locked up.”
Birdman Jr. isn’t the only rap star who will pop up on tonight’s debut: 2 Chainz will join the “Hip Hop POV” castmembers — also including Charlamagne Tha God, Devi Dev, Bu Thiam and Sowmya Krishnamurthy — on the show’s premiere.

She’s just one of several pop stars bridging the gap between hip-hop and rap.
Demi Lovato and Eminem are not two names often tied together. But the pop singer recently shared that she’d like to change that, saying she’d love to hit the studio with the legendary rapper.
“Hopefully, I can work with Eminem,” the singer told E! News about her dream collaboration. “He’s my favorite rapper, so anything with him would be amazing.”
Hip-hop fans might be surprised to hear about Lovato’s love for the genre, but Lovatics are more familiar with it. She made headlines last fall with her gut-busting cover of “How to Love” by Lil Wayne. When she spoke to MTV News about the deeply personal track, she fessed up about her love for the rapper and his song.
“I just loved the way that Lil Wayne took a risk doing the song ‘How to Love,’ and when I really listened to it, it’s such a great song,” she said. “It has such a deep meaning to it and I wanted to perform that, and I put a little spin on it and tried to make it a little more empowering. And I think it fit with the platform and the message that I have with my fans.”
Lovato’s one of many artists crossing over between pop and hip-hop. Taylor Swift was at the forefront of the trend in 2011, hitting the stage with the likes of T.I. and Nicki Minaj. And Justin Bieber said he’ll likely work with Drake and Kanye West on his 2012 release, Believe. So it seems this trend isn’t going away anytime soon.

‘As I was listening to his music, I am not even thinking about any of that,’ Eminem tells Vibe about working with Yelawolf.
Eminem wasn’t the first-ever white rapper, but when Slim Shady kicked in hip-hop’s doors in 1999, he was still an anomaly. In 2011, Yelawolf doesn’t have quite the same difficulty, as the white rapper stigma, for the most part, has subsided. It’s a topic that Em and Yela discuss in the December/January issue of Vibe magazine.
In the magazine’s cover story, Eminem tells veteran writer Erik Parker that he and Wolf, who Em signed to Shady Records earlier this year, hardly consider race while in the studio. “We make jokes about it, but I don’t think we talk about it in depth,” he said. “As I was listening to his music, I am not even thinking about any of that sh–. It’s just the music. That’s one of the things that’s great about it. I’m not even thinking about it when I hear the music.”
They did make light of it in the studio, however. “We do poke fun of it because it’s funny. Like, he calls me White Dog,” Yela said.
“Yeah, or Beige Sheep,” Em joked.
Growing up in Alabama, Yela learned a lot about race relations, especially as it pertains to hip-hop culture. And while a rapper like Kreayshawn affiliate V-Nasty may feel comfortable dropping the N-word, Wolf insists that that is a no-no. “[In Alabama] we have a dark history concerning the relationship between black and white people. I’m not a role model by any means, but if I said it around the house, I got popped in the mouth,” he said.
Eminem insists that race is secondary to music. “We deal with it enough as it is. So now, let’s make music,” Eminem said.
“Let’s make great records. At the end of the day, that’s all there is to do,” Yela, whose debut album, Radioactive, hits shelves November 21, added.
When the topic of drugs came up, a clean and sober Em joked that he recently shot heroin, making light of a situation that he had previously taken so seriously. That opened the door for Yela to talk about his own experience with narcotics.
“I started smoking weed at 11. By 12, I was smoking dust. Thirteen, acid, Freon, Special K, mushrooms; 16 years old, I was selling X pills at school. Not even because I was a good dope boy, but because I was a scumbag,” the tatted-up rapper revealed. “It was called chocolate chip, and it had heroin in it. I used to take that sh– and go to class. I went so heavy into drugs that I had a bad trip one time that lasted for months.”

Chris Rene and Rachel Crow also earn high praise from the mentors.
Youngsters stole the night when “The X Factor” went to Hollywood on Wednesday (November 9), with the top 11 contestants singing songs from the movies. Well, maybe Songs That Were at One Time Used in Movies would be more appropriate, since few people associate Coldplay’s “Fix You” with the Owen Wilson starrer “You, Me and Dupree” or U2′s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” with the Julia Roberts/ Richard Gere flick “Runaway Bride.”
Regardless, Astro, the 15-year-old rapper with enough confidence to fuel a rocket ship to the moon, soared with his rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which kept the Oscar-winning song’s structure but saw all new verses — including a shout-out to boxing legend Joe Frazier, who died this week — from the pint-size spitter. “You are a champion tonight,” Nicole Scherzinger told him, while Simon Cowell seemed equally impressed with Astro’s performance and the show’s ability to clear the use of the notoriously protective Eminem’s song.
Elsewhere, 13-year-old Rachel Crow was compared by Cowell to a “mini-little Beyoncé” after her stirring, show-closing take on Bey’s “I’d Rather Go Blind” from “Cadillac Records.” All four judges were wowed, with L.A. Reid telling her, “Up until now, I wasn’t sure if you were a true contender … but tonight, you proved that you have your eye on the target.”
Here’s how the rest of the contestants fared on Wednesday’s show:
The Boys The Girls The Over 30′s The Groups One finalist is scheduled to be eliminated during Thursday’s live “X Factor” results episode, which is also slated to feature performances from Willow Smith and Jessie J.

Marcus Canty was nearly engulfed by smoke onstage while singing “I’m Going Down” (from “Car Wash”), but three of the four judges agreed he was a “star,” with Cowell offering praise but saying next time, he should ditch the corny sequined jacket he wore during the performance. And Chris Rene took the Astro route and went full-on hip-hop with his performance, rechristening Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” as “Pastime Paradise,” which earned high marks from the judges and was called “amazing” by Abdul, while Cowell offered a congratulatory “Welcome back, Chris Rene.”
Drew took on Coldplay’s “Fix You,” and after Abdul criticized her dress, she was forced to take her foot out of her mouth when Cowell told her the 14-year-old designed it herself. Reid complimented Drew’s performance but said it was too similar to her offerings from past weeks. Melanie Amaro took on Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” and was dubbed “bloody fantastic” by Cowell, though Reid said it was “strong, but predictable,” saying she didn’t take enough risks with the song.
Stacy Francis split the judges with her version of Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night,” which “delivered in a big way” according to Abdul but left Reid puzzled (“Why did you do the third most popular song from the album?” he asked, criticizing a song he helped pen for the “Bodyguard” soundtrack). LeRoy Bell’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” was dubbed “dignified” by Cowell, and both Reid and Abdul said it was the performance they’ve been waiting for from the 60-year-old. Burrito maker Josh Krajcik put some extra chipotle sauce on his version of Joe Cocker’s “With a Little Help From My Friends.” While Cowell dogged the production (“You were like Dracula and the brides up there,” he said of Krajcik and his backup dancers), Scherzinger stood and applauded during the performance and said he’s deserving of the $5 million prize.
Abdul’s students suffered a blow last week but looked to battle their way back on Wednesday. Lakoda Rayne were praised for their unity on their version of Keith Urban’s “Someone Like You” — from “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” apparently — and Cowell said they’ve become “the group I always hoped and prayed you’d become.” Meanwhile the Stereo Hogzz, who narrowly escaped elimination last week, did a gender flip on Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” (used in “Get Smart”) which Scherzinger labeled “bananas” but Cowell criticized for not being the kind of song they’d make in the studio.
